PSG Defeats Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Lift French Super Cup in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now secured the season-opening cup on 14 separate occasions.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past their arch-rivals in the Gulf and secure a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.

The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the match between the French league winners and the Coupe de France winners after Ousmane Dembele opened the scoring early on.

However, Marseille struck twice late to seize a shock advantage. Initially, Mason Greenwood scored from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking turn of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a vital leveler in the dying moments to force the contest into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the key figure, saving crucial kicks from O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for PSG to complete a 4-1 penalty win.

The record winners Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the last 13 years.
